Here's your chance to own a FULLY SERVICED (ultrasonic wash, rinse, and lubrication) Hamilton Electric Polaris watch. Pictured in Rene Rondeau's book "The Watch Of The Future" on page 151, it was released in June 1960 with an original price of $150.00. It is Six Times signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, band & buckle. It runs great and keeps time to well under 30 seconds variation per day, and has a brand new battery just installed. The hack function works properly, and the watch starts right up each time the crown is pushed in from the setting position to the running position.
This is a special Polaris, in that it was a Hamilton Award watch given to employees after 15 years of service. Information can be found on page 201 of "The Watch Of The Future". Employees had a choice of either Electric or Mechanical watch. The dedication was photo-etched on the back, and special dials were made with a large "H" logo.
The Polaris has an understated eccentricity. It was definitely a fine dress watch of its day, but had that little extra that really made it stand out as a Hamilton Electric. It differs from the Polaris II in that the case opens from the rear, so it is able to have the teardrop shaped dial and crystal, giving it a little something extra. Surprisingly, there were only around 6,100 of these watches produced, so they are not all too common. As a plus, it has had a BRAND NEW OLD STOCK D-PIN installed in the balance, so it will run virtually as it did from the factory.
